📡🌍 Lignaverda is harnessing cutting-edge technology to support local communities living in the Sahel as they adapt to climate disruption. With backing from Flemish International Climate Action Programme (VIKAP), we are deploying local weather stations in partnership with Ondernemers voor Ondernemers (OvO) and Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO). These stations collect critical climate data, which feed into advanced forecasting models like CLIMTAG (climate.vito.be).
Enhancing climate disruption

By improving weather predictions, this technology empowers farmers to anticipate the start of the rainy season, optimize sowing schedules, and increase crop yields – strengthening food security in vulnerable regions. Additionally, high-precision climate data helps Lignaverda analyze precipitation variability in the Sahel, enabling a data-driven reforestation strategy that maximizes survival rates and ecological impact.
Scaling impact & empowering communities
Beyond agriculture, this initiative supports local decision-makers, water resource managers, and policymakers in climate adaptation planning. To ensure long-term benefits, we are working with local communities to train farmers and field teams in interpreting and applying weather data to their daily activities.
This project was funded by the Flemish government.
